The
Stacking Mugs
The
stacking mugs are among the most common of all Fire-King mugs and they
range in value from 10 cents to several hundred dollars each. The
standard handle is sort of shaped like the geometric figure of a trapezoid.
The other handle shape is very similar to the restaurant ware C-Handle.
For stacking mugs, the handles should be referred to as circle, round,
or donut – but not “C-Handle”. The round handles are less common
than the standard handle.
These
mugs come in all sorts of colors, patterns, advertising, theme and such
and they date from the 1950s through 1980. I have tried to include
all the different types of color patterns from my collection in the pictures
below.

A Pantry Blue or Granite
Ware mug, rich colors with speckles. |
(1) Desert Sage with black
base and round handle; (2) Solid yellow with round handle;
(3) Bold Colors mug in blue – black rim and round handle |
Here are two ribbed based
mugs, a solid color and one with graduated colors. These are gaining
in popularity. |
Here is one example of a
Rainbow mug, available in oranges, reds, blues too. The 2nd mug is
a standard stacking mug with a blue quilt or picnic tablecloth, available
in about 8 different colors. A typical application to a fired-on
motif on a standard stacking mug. |
A rare zodiac mug with the
Fire-King embossing on bottom, fired on black and gold. A set of
12 could take years to acquire. The second is a typical advertising
mug, this one for A&W Root beer. An uncommon mug but typical
in application of an advertising logo, theme, or event. |
